Shocking Benz single wipers

I reckon I have shocked and drenched a few startled bystanders when I turned on my wiper on a wet day at standstill position. The force of the wiper action really "chucks" the water a long way off the side of the car instead of downwards or to the vertical edges of the screen. I've had a few unpleasant words directed at me due to this like f/words, s/words and others. Is this normal or the wiper is out of adjustment???

Yes, that's how my wiper also works... really tosses the water!

I guess you don't use your wipers too often in OZ.

wipers

I would say that this is normal "behavior," as I have been on the receiving end of this phenomenon on several occasions by MB's and other makes.

With a single blade, the wiper has to cover the entire windshield, so it has to go faster. In a two wiper set up, the driver's wiper would clean the glass two times, forward and backward, whereas the single wiper only gets every other pass. The extra speed accounts for the flinging action you have observed.

Happy Motoring:D

He, he, that's what I like best about the car.
But then again, that's what makes me a satanic s.o.b. :D

When I've had a tiff with my wife, I usually douse her with a splash when she enters the passenger side of the vehicle...;)

Single blade wiper is the best wiper I've ever had. Too bad, Mercedes switches back to double blade. What a pity.

high pressure headlight washers are even more fun. . .
That's about the only use I have for them in Texas.

The single wiper cannot keep the windscreen clear in heavy rain. Another MB design issue. Along with only one delay position, causing premature wiper blade failure or frequent input from driver to turn the wiper on and off.

Hmmmm, if the wipers on any of my vehicles fail to clear the windshield during a hard rain, I'm going too fast for the road conditions.

I think it is a good design for rain but someone needs to come up with a winter blade for the mono wiper. My wiper bridges the windshield when it snows and ices up and causes much stress when driving. Any one know of one or how to make one myself?
