I like to use the fog lights as daytime running lights. On my 91 350SDL, the fog lights can be operated by turning the switch to "parking lights" and pulling the switch to turn on fog lights - no headlights on at all.
On the 300D, however, the headlights have to be on for the fog lights to work. Is it possible to change placement of a wire or two on the 300D light switch so that I can operate the fog lights without having the headlights on, or are there other, interconnecting relays, etc., that I haven't found yet? Anybody have a diagram of 123 lighting you could fax to me? TIA ------------------ Wilton Strickland Goldsboro, NC 91 350 SDL. 81 300D |

I did look at the diagram on my Mercedes Cd rom...(We sell them for the 123 in the partsshop), and I think you will have to wire in a relay. If you power them up before the other switches, I think that the headlights will feed off of this too.

'Zackly what I was thinking, Benzmac. What about using, for example, right hand only parking light position of the switch to operate relay for fog lights only? Is it possible to have this position active for fog light relay and still have normal parking lights? Thanks.

Benzmac,
-- Or what about operating fog light relay from one of the left or right parking light (Are they called standing lights?) positions on the light switch with a jumper between the left and right switch terminals so that all parking lights work at same time as fogs - just like the 126? Would this allow normal operation of parking lights with the "regular" parking light switch? Thanks. ------------------ Wilton Strickland Goldsboro, NC 91 350 SDL. 81 300D |

Benzmac,
'Been trying to order 123 & 126 CD's from PartsShop. I'm using password originally assigned, but the order form keeps telling me it's invalid. What next? TIA BTW, today I place jumper between left and right parking light (standing light) terminals on the 123 light switch, causing all parking lights to work together when either left or right standing light position is selected. Regular parking lights continue to work normally. I may connect relay for fog lights to one of the left or right terminals. I noticed, also that the switch has a "pull" switching position in left and right standing light positions, but I did not find a terminal that goes "live" when the switch is pulled while in left or right standing light positions. ------------------ Wilton Strickland Goldsboro, NC 91 350 SDL. 81 300D |

Hi. I, too, use my foglights as DRLs, but I've hooked up a DRL module (from JC Whitney -- I chose the "reduced brightness" version of the two they sell, cat#13-5227-R) so that it operates automatically -- when the engine is on and all lights are switched off; if you put on your lights (beginning with the parking lights or beyond), the DRL's go off. And this doesn't interfere with normal (i.e., full-power) operation of the fog lights when you put them on manually -- i.e., with the switch.
It sure saves forgetting to turn off your lights when you park. |
