e320 TRANS QUESTION

HI.
this is a 97 e320.
the car runs fine but sometimes while shifting it would "loose" traction with the tranny..it would rev. as though cluch was depressed on a manual. it only does this momentory.

on a few occasions the car would just not shift. it would run and gain speed but not feel like it shifts(limp mode?) if i stop and move the selector it will engage and be normal.

i had the car on a 700 mile trip recently and it did not have any problems.

i have heard that the gear shift "range recognition switch" gives problems???

could anyone please tell me the symptons related to "bad" range rec. switch.

thanks

I remember reading about the misfit with the M104 inline six and the new 5 speed transmission introduced in '97. I'm not versed in it but a search using 'M104 AND 5 speed' might deliver some info.
