1997 SL320 top & roll bar

I'm trying to figure out how to get the "red" lights reset for the Top and Roll Bar. They will not do anything until the lights are reset.

The top and the roll bar are both inoperable due to the red lights being on. I was able to manually raise the top ( opened up cover with the wrench ) but I could not get the roll bar up. It's like it's locked down. Now that I think about it, I should have said that the Top and Rollbar were not "functioning" from the beginning. They quit working when lights came on. The car was in the garage for about 2 months and when I tried to start it the battery failed. That's when the fun began.

thanks again
Rick

Try reset

This happened with my SL320, I held down the rollbar button until it reset. You can also disconnect the battery to reset the system (I think). If the Rollbar is malfunctioning or it has been deployed due to an anticipated rollover situation, it will not allow any other systems to operate like the soft top or the hard top. If resetting with this method doesn't help, check the switches underneath on the control arms of the suspension in the rear of the vehicle, good Luck.
Regards,
Brian

From Ricks previous thread:

Gilly,
Well I finally got to the bottom of it. It was the control unit ( N-52 ) for the top. I tried everything but was not having any success so I talked a friend of mine into bringing his '98 SL500 over and we swapped the control units...That was it. His worked fine on my car - all functions - and then I tried mine on his car and it did the same thing as it did on my car. FINALLY!
Do you know if these can be rebuilt or purchased somewhere with a better price than the local MB dealer?
I really want to thank you for your advice.
Rick

WTF Rick, is it fixed or not?

Wink SL320 red lights

Guys,
I'm sorry I didn't close out on this problem. I really appreciate all of your efforts towards a solution. I'm in love with my SL again, and today was 88 degrees and sunny...Yeee Haaa!
I'm going to drop in every once in a while, hopefully with good things to say, and see what you guys are up to. Again, thanks.

Rick

OHHHHHH, so sorry Rick. You must have another thread, the one I helped you on, and this one just suddenly got picked up on.

I thought you sort of decided it wasn't fixed after all or something goofy like that. Where did you end up getting your own control module?

Gilly
