Driving over parking lot bumps...

Dear friends:

I have to drive my car over about 10 bumps in a parking lot every day. Even though I always try to go over the bumps as slowly as possible, I just do not feel very good for my car's suspension or drivetrain. Do you think my worries are reasonable? Thanks a lot for your precious information.

Best regards,

Eric

Eric ,

Join the real world. One mile down a moderately bumpy road does more harm to your suspension system than a lifetime of speed bumps. As long as you are not lifting the front end off the ground at each bump you are probably doing little to now damage.

I would get off the brake when I hit a speed bump. The sudden rotation of the rotor against the pad may cause some scoring of the rotor. But I wouldn't worry too much about the suspension.

I've found that going over speed bumps is a lot better than going over speed dips. There is one parking lot near me that uses the dips and I think it causes a lot of strain as the enitre weight of the car comes down on the suspension as opposed to the tires being pushed up into the chassis.
