If you can ID the red vacum hose next to the bowden cable your name will be put in the hat for a free trip to the North Pole on July fourth 2083.
I Found the red hose with a screw plugging it when I pulled the tranny for resealing on my 86 Euro SE 500 I don't know what it dose or where it plugs in on the engine.........dress warm.......

I believe it goes to the upshift delay solenoid valve. Or if you car has E/S transmission mode switch, it may go to the mode switchover valve.

Thank you , I'll bet you are right as it's a 722 311 transmission with E/S mode,I found a blocked vacum port on the intake maifold when I get it back together I'll plug it in to that port and see what happens and let you know.

the E/S mode has never worked and as the car is geared very high 1800 at 60 it is slow off the line unless you do a full kick down witch I don't like doing very often on an older car.............

William, it doesn't go directly to the intake manifold. Here is a diagram and description

Thanks a bunch for the diagrams! I searched the engine compartment and could not find a like solinoid ,the car is a 86 Euro model 500 SE that has had a Euro 420 engine installed (I really like the Euro 420 engine)it has the E/S sliding switch on the console but perhaps when they changed out the engine they left out the solinoid and plugged the the line.

I can see no advantage to second gear starts other than heavy ice and snow driving witch we dont have. Seem like you have to get weight in motion and a first gear start should not affect fuel usage with a moderate driving style,I also do very little city driving and live in the Mts. where a first gear start is handy.......
