I removed the airfilter today to clean up inside the airfilter box (there was a LOT of dirt in there), and at the same time i wiped clean the top of the air plate. I noticed it could be pushed in about 3-4 mm with almost no pressure applied. Is this "free play" the same as the static heigh of the air plate, which I have read on this group should be 1-2 mm. Could it in this case explain why my car (190E) always stalls when started unless gas is applied?

Mercedes did have an internal bulletin on this. It should be adjusted to 2mm.
The adjustment can be easily OVERDONE!!! Be careful if you do this yourself. ------------------ Benzmac: Donnie Drummonds 1992 500E (very soon I hope 1981 280GE SWB ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN SERVICE MANAGER FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
