Recently in with a large Mercedes Benz dealer getting a minor service, and the service advisor recommended that I replace the charcoal filter in the HVAC system (at 20k miles miles) - he mentioned that he has seen it to the point where a customers car actually has caught fire because the filter was so clogged in the dash, etc. The customer mentioned a whistling sound and could not figure out what was wrong. BWAAAHAAAHAA - I actually busted out laughing. I probably have not laughed that hard since Martin Short was doing the smoking Attorney on SNL back in 84 and 85!

Can you people actually believe that modern day service departments are actually using scare-tactic examples like this?

PS - Bruce, this is your 5 star recommended Washington Area dealership.

FYI.
A dealer in our area just worked on a customer's car...They did the work and called the customer AFTER the car was done. Not before installing the $635.00 part!

BTW. I checked the price I would sell for and it was $465...Same part, go figure.
