cheap valve spring compressor

Will this work on a M117.042 V8?
The Baum is $300! Anyone use this one? |
I tried one of these on my 560 SEL. It did not fit. However, a different brand may work on a different model of Benz. I used an overhead cam valve spring compression tool. Not available at the five parts store I tried, ended up buying it at a tool store (KD brand). Sorry it does not have a part number on it. The price was about $40.
My double spring valves were strong causing the tool to bend. I just kept wrapping it with duct tape to keep the feet together. I hope this helps. |
I have had great success with the compressor from Technictool 800.637.8738 - paid $135. Also on web at technictool.com.
Worked on my M110 and M116. |
KD tool #3087 worked well for me.

I used that exact KD tool and it did work well. The only problem I had were the legs spreading (in some situations that is not a problem). I ended up wrapped the legs in tape after every valve.
|
David, that's a really good point -I bent the legs of the tool inwards to decrease the spreading between the two. This enables the tool to apply much more force to compress the springs.
