Has anyone ever adjusted the vacuum adjustment to the transmission modulator. I adjusted it when I first bought the car and solved a horrible jerking on gear shifts. I have had it set to create a nice smooth shift, but my mechanic feels I should turn it back some to prevent wear. Can anyone explain this or similar experiences. Whata re there specs for vaccuum gauge pressure to the modulator that should be obtained in adjustment?

You want a shift that does not slip, but does deliver a smooth quality. This is obtained by not just adjusting the quality of the shift, but also the shift point. You should adjust acording to the book. (TDM technical data manual)
