BIG gas leak!!!
Pulled the SL out of the garage today and saw it leaking big time around the fuel pump cover in front of the right rear wheel. Pulled the cover off and ran the car and now , nothing. Can't even tell where it was leaking. Anyone have any experience with this? Car has 36K on it.

Might be a non-problem
Could it have spit out of the fuel filler tube? Perhaps the last time you parked it was just after a fillup. Changes in temperature and barometric pressure may have then expanded the fuel out the filler tube.

Mine smelled terrible a few years ago, and the "big" leak turned out to be a loose hose clamp near the fuel pump.
Had one on hand so it was a 15-minute job at no expense!

SL Leak
Guys, I have the same problem with my 96 SL280.
Ive noticed that when the car is cold, having not driven it for a while, I get the Fuel leak in exactly the same place. After I drive the car, it goes away. PLEASE can anyone help? The Local Mercedes garage want £100 ($150ish) just to look at it! Somebody has to know what it is.
