Ashtray removal - 95 E320
 

The cigar lighter on my car (95 E320) doesn't work.

With the ashtray removed there are two screws in back of unit.

I removed these. Many posts on this forum say the ashtray unit should then pull out.

Mine doesn't it...and I have applied a fair amount of pulling pressure.

Seems that it should pull out easily.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong (or not doing)?

You might be on the safer side to remove the wood trim around the shifter. First, open up the rolltop box, and remove the two screws at the front. There is one screw on a plastic tab holding down the shifter trim. Remove and lift it straight up from the rear. The ashtray should now be easily removable.
