Speedometer and odometer quit working today!!!
Hello board,
Today as I was driving my speedometer and odometer quit working. All my other gauges are working perfectly. Well I went to a used parts place and found another cluster for my car. I plugged it up, and all the gauges worked, except for the speedometer and odometer. Does anyone know what the culprit could be? My car is for sale, and I hope it is not an expensive fix.

I believe the W124 has a mechanical speedometer, so it's the cable. If not, the pickup in the tranny or rear end is either bad or the wiring is bad.

As Peter mentioned before...
it is probably the cable. Check the connection at the transmission. Since you have two clusters. Do you happen to have an extra working temp LCD display for sale? Let me know. Thanks!

Definitely the cable
Sounds like the same problem on my mom's car. I changed the cable and it solved the problem. Cheap and Easy DIY 10 min fix.
Good luck.
