1st gear start question
 

Hi guys,

When i engage first gear at a stop by switching to 2 then back to D. And then I press the pedal, it only stays in 1st for about 1 second. Is this normal, or would this be a symptom of a failure starting to occur somewhere? Maybe the kickdown switch, though i dont know if this switch is related to the first gear function.

How hard are you pressing the pedal?
 

If you're flooring the car - it should run to redline. Anything less than flooring and the tranny may try to upshift quickly for fuel efficiency.

I thought I already replied to this, maybe i accidentally did to a different post:eek:

I push the pedal down about 3/4 of the way, and it only stays engaged for about 1 second. I am not flooring it. But i would think it should stay in first longer without flooring it since i am engaging 1st gear through the shifter method instead of the kickdown switch method? I dont know.

The car is an 88 190e 2.3 8v with a 91 engine.
