Difference in Steering Shocks

Steering shock dampener:

124 463 04 32 - 124, 129, 202

000 463 53 32 - 123, 126

Both shocks are identical in external apperance and dimensions, including length of piston rod travel.

So what's the difference - internal valving? dampening ability?

Temporarily exchanged a new ...53 32 for a new ...04 32 on a W124 and noticed no difference in steering response.

intersting that you post this, I just replaced the steering damper on my C class yesterday, I think I noticed a difference when turning tight at slow speed. My old damper made a noise that i had been trying to diagnose for a long time, and seems to have cleared up with the new damper.
But one thing to check is not turn in but the self centering feel after a turn.
