#%*@$ Glow Plugs

OK Somebody has to help, I am traveling down the highway at 75MPH been at this speed for 40+ miles the GP light comes on an then surprise surprise the CE light comes on. Why in the hell would the GP's come on at this speed and engine temp? Pardon the language, this is just starting to piss me off, the CE light is setting weekly because of the GP's. By the way, I put an ohm meter on the GP's at the controller, had .000 on all of them.

Temp sensor for the glow plugs may be bad, or a wiring problem.

Someone else posted something about this on the diesel forum a while back, try a search.

Thanks, both temp sensors are new. I think that post was mine.

Have you replaced the glow-plugs? Our 1998 diesel (turbo, not quite the same) went through glow-plugs like a cheap drunk goes through Wild Turkey. I can't hardly remember a time when the CE light wasn't on in that car. Nothing solved the problem except replacement.

95 e 300d 118k. Glow plug light would come on randomly - at speed, at start up, whenever. Sometimes it wouln't come on at all. Obviously I suspected glow plug problem, carbon fouling or relay. My tech checked it all out and discovered engine wiring harness was cracked in multiple places. Wires were even showing and starting to fray. He said MB switched from using an indestructable wiring harness on the earlier models to using a cheap version. Even the new MB replacement is low(er) quality. He replaced engine wiring harness and now things are fine. Light acts as it should. Cost me $700. Still kinda stings.

wait a minute

Are you sure it's a glow plug problem? Why not isolate (confirm) the problem before you start replacing parts?

Respectfully submitted.

Well it is throwing a P0380 Glow Plug Circuit Malfunction code. If there is anything else that would cause that code other than a glow plug componet then I am all ears!
