heat coming out of vents with heater off

82 380sl replaced solenoid valve for heater.
heat coming out of vents with everything off
also just had compressor and dryer replaced and warm air comes out during full cold temp.
no control of the climate control also
main cocern is having the top down with heat coming out upper & lower vents

Does your HVAC system have the horizontal or vertical button layout?
If it's the horizontal later version (as I think it is for your year), is the "solenoid valve" you replaced the monovalve, that's located on the firewall in the engine bay and regulates the flow of coolant into the system?
I ask because it sounds exactly like you've got a failure at that point. The default for the valve is open, and whether it's got a torn diaphragm or bad electrical connections, if it's not actively restricting flow you'll get unstoppable hot air.
From the department of goofs I might characteristically make: You did put the connector back on it, I assume.

heat in car

yes that was the valve i replaced the other day but i onlt replaced the mechanical diaphram part if i put 12 volts to the connector i should be able to here it open and close?
could the solenoid be bad. i didn't think that this went very often.
horizintal controls.
does this model have a vacuum switch near the wipers also
my other 450slc 76 has that valve.
