Exhaust problems

My CLK 230 Kompressor has become noisy. After taking it to my local MB dealer I was informed that the both the exhaust manifold is leaking and the air compressor is cracking.

How do I check thi is true and what other possible causes are there. One thing that botheres me is that the noise primarily when I start the car and at low speeds. Above 30mph the car seems fine.
