190e Heater Core Question- O-Rings
For the aluminum pipes that come through the firewall and attach to the heater core, there are O-rings. Are these very specific O-rings or generic?

The answer is: They seem pretty everyday rubber to me. I went specifically to my local dealer and was charged $2.50 EACH for this roughly 1" round o-rings (looked to be the same as in the package of 10 for $1.99 at the local parts store).
What fooled me was the original ones were squared in cross-section and hard. Well they were squared from compression and hard from being cooked by coolant over 10+ years. Maybe the Benz ones are may out of unobtanium or something .... Live and learn, Haasman

Often inconclusive what the material is by look or feel. Often both Viton and Buna-N are black, but you don't want leaks or poor longevity with this kind of tear-down. Cheap insurance to get the parts from the dealer.

Yeah, that's kinda the way I'd feel too. rather spend the $5/pair and know they're the same as Ma Benz put in there, especially when you're into the guts of the car that deep.
If it were something easily accessable it'd be another thing. Gilly |
