Exhaust problems
My CLK 230 Kompressor has become noisy. After taking it to my local MB dealer I was informed that the both the exhaust manifold is leaking and the air compressor is cracking.
How do I check thi is true and what other possible causes are there. One thing that botheres me is that the noise primarily when I start the car and at low speeds. Above 30mph the car seems fine. Thanks for your help |
Generally speaking, exhaust noise is exhaust noise, period. If anything, a leaky exhaust manifold and compressor should call themselves to attention even more so at higher speeds.
I'm more inclined to believe the problem lies past the manifold towards the muffler or connections within. Performance mufflers are "tuned", for a rumble at idle, but quiet down at low speeds. There may be a leak somewhere... |
Well, my first question......is it under warranty ?
One option is to have the engine idling, get a friend to cover the tailpipe with some rags, while you listen under the car ( and under the hood ) for exhaust leaks. ;) |
Appreciate your help. Its quite a relief as they wanted to charge me quite a bit. I'll try it out.
The noise is coming from near the engine. I understand that there are 2 mufflers. One rear and one front. Could it be the muffler in the front needs tuning? |
