87 300e please help, rear wheel rattle?

My 300e has a rattle in the rear left , i`ve had it now for 2 years,it`s sound is just like as if i had a loose dress rim, you know the thin tinny ones. It only happens when the accelerator is not depressed, coasting at low speeds over undulating surfaces or bumps, it`s definatly comming from within the wheel and has got me stumped what it is. I`ve replaced the rear bearings thinking it may be that but it still persists, just this tinny rattle like a dress rim or a loose baffel in the muffler.
Thanks for any help George

Try adjusting your parking brake. I know this sounds unlikely, but I just got rid of a similiar sound. In the process I learned something: While driving slowly, hold the parking brake release handle and push down and release the parking brake several times. This will supposedly automatically adjust the parking brake shoes.

Did for me AND the little tinny noise went away!

Parking Brakes

If you were to dismantle the rear rotor and closely inspect the parking brake shoes (in the area of the operating lever) you will notice that the shoes may not be making contact with the anchor, or the stop. Reason: the slot in the shoe which accommodates the lever often is not deep enough, causing the shoes to rattle when driving over bumps/driveways. Try filing the slot a little deeper to allow the shoes to make full contact with the anchor/stop, than adjust the shoes as needed.

To my knowledge that brake assembly was/is not "self adjusting"

I heard a metallic thunk coming from the left rear wheel every time I rolled over a bump except when I was braking at the same time.
The noise was actually made by the whole caliper assembly which was loose. The two bolts holding it to the car were tightened all the way, but there was still some play. I inserted washers and that took care of the play and also of the noise.
Hope this helps.
jacques.

Sorry, i should of stated in my first post, that applying the foot brake or the hand brake, a little or alot does nothing to alter the sound.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Another tinny rattle I got rid of was a loose exhaust U clamp by the transmission support bracket. Kind of a jingling sound that I thought was coming from the back of the car.

I have a similar noise coming from the drivers rear. Ive been told to change the rear sway bar bushings and that will do the trick.

Ive had mine up on a lift and tried my hardest to find/duplicate the noise with no success whatsoever so I'll be watching this thread closely. good luck
