Idler Arm Repair question

Has any one ever replaced the items shown. The MB CD says I will need an extractor and press-in tool for the pair of those black pieces. Do I really need special tools for R&R.

thanks...

These are not in very tight.

I have done several, and they have always come out easily enough with a chisel. Sometimes I grab them with channel-locks to finish the job. Once the bottom one is chiseled out (downward), the top one can easily be punched out the top from behind.

Hand pressure or a light tap is enough to press them back in. I use white lithium grease on the pressed surfaces. Not sure what (if anything) MB suggests. Sometimes they say 'lithium soap' for pressed rubber bits, which is apparently the same thing.

The hard part is removing and installing the bolt.

Do a search, and you will see endless discussion on this topic...
