oil pressure question - '65 250S Gas

heyya all,
got myself a '65 250S I'm starting to work on - it's in pretty good shape but there are a few things I need to work on.
First thing I want to resolve. The oil pressure seems high. The gauge max's out @40 pretty much all the time. The only time it drops down is after the car been run for awhile & then it will drop down to ~32 when the car is in gear and in low idle (ie at a stop sign). Any ideas on where I should start looking to resolve? Or is ther anything to resolve? I have done a complete oil flush and cleaned all the goop from the bottom of the oil pan. It was dirty but no "red flag" foreign material. It is a GA 230 automatic tranny and that is next on the list for a flush, new filter & fluid.

thanks
Doug

No need to look into it, you want it pegged at anything above idle. Sounds like your pressur eis fine. It can dip as low as 10psi or so at hot idle in the summer (possibly lower) and should peg as soon as the revs come up. Anything less than pegged - 45psi/3 BAR - when above 1K RPM could indicate an internal problem.

65 250S?

The trans can be drained. The fluid clutch, aka torque converter, has a drain plug. Rotate the engine until it appears and remove it. The ATF will drain out.

These transmissions shift firmly so don't be alarmed.

Doug,

I concur with all of the above. Where are you located? It can't be the U.S. because those models started in 66 here. That tranny is a K4A 025. K stands for fluid coupling, the 4 stands for 4 speed. the A for 1st version, and it is rated at 25 kiloponds. The trans is bullet proof. Some tips: always rotate the engine over by hand in the direction of rotation to avoid bending a chain rail. Also if your downshifts are very harsh, they are controlled by the adjustment of the little switch on the front carb. There is no control pressure rod on that trans. Control pressure is taken care of by the solenoid mounted on top of the tranny. A 68 250S was my first MB.

Good luck,
Peter

thanks for all the great info on the tranny
I'm located in Northern Alberta - but I have no pedigree on the car. Fellow I bought it from got it at an estate sale & there is no record of it being in the provincial registration 'system'.
Anyone know if its possible to track the car based on serial #?
FYI the car is 108.012 12-046599
