timing cover stuck, any ideas??
Hi my timing cover doesnt want to budge at all. I triple checked all my bolts and everything is off, including 3 bolts in head and 3 bolts under oil pan.
Any one have any hints on this? 88 190e 2.3 8v Thanks, Josh |
If you have not done it already you will need to remove the oil pan. The oil pump pickup tube attaches to the cover than to the number 1 or 2 Main Cap. Drop the drag-link, lift the engine high, than place 1x2's or 2x2's 3 to 4 inches long, under the engine mounts. If the mounts are really old the 2x2 will slip under, if not the 1x2's will work. You may need to rotate the engine slightly in order to allow clearance between the rear crank journal and the rear section of the oil pan.
CAUTION: The nipple from the oil pump cover plate fits into the block and it may break/crack. Regardless of the out come with the cover plate nipple it is best to install a new o-ring! |
