Engine mount
 

Hi guys,

i have a problem with my 1988 200E when i on the A/C and shift the gear to R or D the engine start to vibrate when it shif to P or N it stop vibrate but when i off the A/C the engine don't vibrate in any gear issit the engine mount is gone ? thank alot

Thought I'd chime in with my views.

Having seen your car, perhaps I can describe the symptoms further for the others :

With A/C off, no significant vibrations, if any, they are very subtle.Regardless whether in gear or not.

With A/C on, in PARK, slight vibration felt from within the car.

In gear, the vibrations are more pronounced.

I had the opportunity of looking at the engine bay with Andy in the driver's seat.

With A/C on, and the car in gear, the whole engine vibrates severely, such that the airfilter housing/inlet is bouncing all over the place.

I diagnosed shot engine mounts and suggested a 2nd opinion from a reliable Merc indie.

It seems that with the compressor on, the engine is loaded and as such the vibrations are more pronounced.

Anyone care to chime in with their thoughts?

i was thinking another point is maybe the motor mount was low and it may have contract the body and cause the engine to vibrate how do you guys think?

If a motor mount is low and contacts with the body, it would indicate that the oil in the mount has drained out, causing it to collapse.

Anyone else care to chime in with their views here?

Not oil really, some kind of glycol from what I have read somewhere.

Maybe this thursday are yu free if you are maybe we could go to the service station to check it out to see what wrong with it?

Andy, you can count me in also, however I need to get a ticket first! I am thinking of jetting to Singapore soon if I have the $$$. Maybe on 25/12/03 I'll be back! Will try to look you both up or we can meet somewhere like Bugis Street or something? I am also having the same problems in my C180, but not as bad as your description. Vibrations mostly when in gear at idle. The steering wheel vibrates, but this also happens in my 1991 Camry, but a lot less. What tickles me is that I can also feel the vibrations on the floor board(driver's side). Maybe the whole engine is about to drop through! My dad had an old Ford which had this happen to it.

Could motor mounts start to go as quickly as 63K miles on a 300E? I'm starting to feel some vibration when stopped in gear.

Hi guys,

i have change the engine mount but the engine is still virbrating,
only when the A/C is on and shift into gear then the engine start virbrating when its shift into P or N it stop virbrating any guys out there could help me out thanks.

What is the idle rpm with the A/C off and then off.

The Rpm is about 800 without the A/C on and when the A/C on is 500-600 that the point of Rpm and the engine start to vibrate my car is a 200E 102 engine and its a carborator 8v my mech told me it normal but when i buy this car there no such problem
