95 S320 oil filter ?, Please Help
Hello,
I have a 94 E320 and a 95 S320 and I think the motors are very close if not the same. The question is when I change the oil in the 94 E320 the filter body is always empty and when I change the oil in the 95 S320 the body stays full of oil, and I dont think it should. The car has always been this way since I bought it in 98. The oil pressure is the same and I change the oil every 3000, but dont understand why it stays full of oil when the 94 E320 is empty when I take out the filter. And I'm sure you know what a mess this makes. Thank for any help! Dan |
I quess I'm the only person this is happening too?

Well, I don't know, I don't own anything that new -- the 87 300D always drains, but I get oil all over the place on the TE since it has a spin-on filter (M103) and it seems to hold at least some oil. Will have to check next time I do an oil change, it's due anyway.

Well,
I just changed the oil in my 96 SL320, it drained from the filter housing. I do remember however that the oil did not drain entirely from my 92 300SD. I really never thought about it. The cars always seem to run fine and have the correct oil levels and pressure according the the manuals. |
Losen filter first, before draining
There are quite a few orings in the filter "shaft". I believe it is designed to prevent oil draining from filter when car is not running. If the filter is not losened first before draining, it should contain oil.

I have a 95 S320, also. I always unscrew the filter cap and lift it slightly before I start to suck the oil out of the dipstick. After I pump up the TopSider, I pull out the filter and change it. It is never full of oil at this point in the process.
