Oil Leak

My 1993 300E is leaking oil. It has been detected to be leaking from the head gasket near the front by the timing chain cover. Mechanic says he needs a special tool to remove timing chain, does anyone have a source for this tool? or know how much it will cost? or any other info/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

First of all, If it is the upper timing case cover you need resealed the timing chain does not have to come out. With that said. All MB special tools are available at the dealer. I would be a little leary if this guy is going to remove the timing chain to fix an external leak on a 103 motor. The only time that chain needs to come out is if you are replacing it.

Oh yea, Forgot to tell you. I just did about 25 hours worth of work on a car because the "mechanic" who "resealed" the front cover leak before me did so much damage that I had to reseal the front cover (upper and lower) and the head gasket. And he is right. For stuff like this you should bring it to a dealer.
