I drive my "baby" SL600 once or twice a week. Lately, the car "putters" and when I took it to the dealer he said I should switch from 94 octane gas to 89. Well today the engine light came on when I restarted the car. I plan to take it back to the dealer on monday. Does anybody have any clues? My car is a 1994 SL600 w 58K and 60K service done in march?

Have you check the ignition related parts such as Distributor Caps, Spark Plug, plug wires...etc?? Have them checked first. MB recommends gas with octane higher than 92, therefore, stick with it...anything lower will do engine no good...

That sounds like the same problem my wife's car ('95 E420) was having. New distributor caps and rotors solved the problem.
Take a look at the DIY article on caps and rotors. If your caps have the same green deposits in them then that's your problem.

This car could have some water in the holes where the plugs and wire ends go. Check the ignition on a scope.
