hi there,
am planning my diff swap this friday/saturday on my uk 190e 2.5 16v. i have searched for this info but cant find the precise answers i need. i am pretty happy with everything apart from removal of the driveshafts, looking at the replacement diff i have i cant see how the driveshafts are attached to the diff-there doesnt seem to be any fixing hols around the perimiter of the driveshaft "holes" the diff has asd/lsd/abs if this makes any difference could someone talk me through the procudure of remving the driveshafts from the car and highlight any specific tools i may need.....last thing i want is to pull the car apart to find i need extra tools! many thanks steve |

Diff swap
Hi Uk mercman,
Being a different model, yours might not be the same but on my W123 the drive shafts are held into the diff by a circlip on each shaft, which is situated inside the diff on the end of the drive shaft spline. Drain diff oil and remove rear cover plate, you will see the ends of the drive shafts protruding through the gears. The circlips on mine do not require circlip pliers, as they have a lug with a hole in it, just make a hook with a piece of stiff wire hook the lug and pull, then slide out the shaft. David |
