i agree with ur frown, but my muffler tips arent what they were when we first got the car. they are "carboned" and i tried a few things to clean them. i tried a muffler tip, but the tip stuck out like 5 inches. i cant think of any alternates. i dont want to spend $600+ on a remus exhust, what should i do?

Buy an aftermarket for Mercedes Benz, not universal. I am sure the Parts Shop can help you out. Are you trying to save money or you want a different look and/or sound?

Mike, if you've got an original muffler and it's still in good shape, short of replacing that part and the associated piece of pipe, the only thing you can do is cut off the rusted "carboned" sections and attach new pipe of your choosing to the stubs. This reply will probably generate more frowns, but I think you really don't want to replace the whole thing and you want to get out of it inexpensively. Another option is to scrape off all the crud and paint the tips with hi temp flat black paint. Just a couple of thoughts.

about close consideration, i think i will clean the crud off the tips and paint them with hi temp jet black paint. i will see how it will come out, but i trust jeffsr's advice on looking good. i will post what happens to my baby, (w124) hehe

Mike.
I've been looking to buy a REMUS muffler for my '88 300 CE for quite some time, but the $ 475 price is to much for me right now. My old REMUS is already rusty, but thanks to the center muffler it sounds still OK. Did anybody had any experiance with mufflers from ISENMANN? In newest BEKKERS catalog I found EISENMANN STAINLESS SPORT MUFFLER for 300E/CE '86-'92 for $ 399. 2X83 mm round to the left tail pipes. $399 is still a lot of money, but $399 for stainless still vs. $475 for regulat REMUS? If any body had any experiens with that muffler, than let me know. Daniel |
