Hi guys...
I currently have Zenon headlamps on my 97'E320, But I don't like the yellow color on my mid and fog lamps. Are there any aftermarket bulbs that can match the color of the Zenon lamps?? I've tried using the Piaa Plasma blue H1, but they don't last that long. Any suggestions? Chuck 1997 E320 |
Chuck,
A problem with bulbs tinted blue to look like the new expensive systems is that the blue glass absorbs a surprising amount of the heat and light, so the bulbs get hotter, and burn out quicker. May be tough to find ones that last. However on the bright side, if you ever drive when you actually need fog lights, like in fog, snow, or heavy rain, you REALLY NEED the yellowish light to be able to see into the distance through the stuff. Blue light of any wattage will just scatter into and light up the fog and reflect back at you without any significant penetration. The engineers did not select the colors for looks. They picked them so drivers may live longer and buy more Mercedes. But they are not cool looking. My 2 cents and I yield my soap box. Roger |
And now for something completely different...
I purchased a set of H1 fog lamp bulbs for my '99 SLK produced by a company called Hiper http://www.24hiper.com from a place called auto indulgence http://www.autoindulgence.com and installed them about a year ago along with some H7 headlight bulbs. They have not burned out nor have I had any problems with them. As for their performance the difference is... pardon the pun... night and day.
