560sel 190k maintance advice
hi all,
i have a 1988 560sel and need some advice. the car has 190k miles on it and i've owned it for about the last 20k miles, i bought this car at an auction and don't know any of the history, looks like very few owners though and seems well maintained. I Love This Car and want it to last another 100k miles. i'm going to take the car to a shop, ........ I was following the wife aand a small puff of white smoke comes out of tail pipe when the car starts going forward. ......... today i saw a small fuel leak around fuel pump by the rear tire. .......... so .... what else should i have the shop look at or check. .... timing chains ? etc. GREAT SITE, you guys have saved me alot of money THANKS. Check the timing chain for stretch, and check the chain guides to see if the plastic is old and brittle.
Timing chains, guides, and tensioners are recommended to be replaced every 100,000 - 120,000 miles. Do a search on any of the above topics. The board is full of great info.
