w124 coupe center muffler
I want to swap the center muffler from my totaled 91 300e to my 88 300ce. Although the part numbers are different, the rear muffler numbers are the same. Since the sedan is about 4 inches longer than the coupe, I am wondering if the only limiting factor between the center mufflers is the length of the pipe. If this is correct, I imagine a muffler shop could on a cost-effective basis make the necessary length adjustments so it fits. Would the cat fitting differ? Thoughts?

You might also consider a straight pipe to replace the center resonator. I know many of the 500E owners have done so
for performance and a more agressive sound. Also saves 50+ pounds of weight. |
That would be the same thing as the "Y" connection I've read about elsewhere on this board?

The dreaded Y-Pipe
You are correct. In your case, I think you have just one
downpipe whereas the V8's have 2. |
