98 C280 loose air boot at intake manifold
Hi, check engine lite on. OBD-II code reader reads P0173, P0170. Fuel trim malfunction. Reading the archive, indicates problem in metering air. Most suggests Air Mass Sensor, or some air leak pass the meter.
I did some checking around the engine bay, found hidden near the fire wall, there is the rubber air boot to the intake manifold. I reached in and can move it around a bit. Because of the location, the connection is made different than most cars, i.e., not with a metal band with a screw. How is this connection made? Press fit? |
You just shove it on and it snaps in. It'll wiggle a bit, thats why its bolted to the manifold, odds are the air flow meter is the problem.

Well, after mucking around last night, I read the OBD-II code again today. There is only one P0173 code instead of the two codes last night. I erase the code and see what happens after a few driving cycles.
After seeing the complexity of the engine bay, I wonder how one can maintain it. No wonder they designed a nice plastic cover to "covered" it up. Out of sight, out of mind. |
