Thanks a bunch for finding this article. You did such a good book report, I don't think I need to go find the magazine. I've been told by several people in that business that my particular oil has a very high "Total Base Number". This is a standard test rating within that industry. I never knew that it was due to these particular additives in copius amounts. These oils offered by many manufacturers, mainly for the diesel truck and equipment market are generally called universal grades. I have my favorite brand, but there are many good ones. I don't remember where I put the post, maybe it was earlier in this string, but I use it in everything I own that has an internal combustion engine, plus in my squirt can. I have the same luck with my gas engines that I do with gas. I JUST FINISHED GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING ON THE OIL SUBJECT. I HAVE FOUND THAT QUAKER STATES SYNTHETIC BLEND IS NOT TOO PRICEY AND MEETS A C-F CLASSIFICATION. I BELIEVE IT IS CALLED 4X4 SYN BLEND. THE C-F CLASSIFICATION IS LISTED ON THEIR 10/30, 10/40 AND 15/40. I KNOW THE 15/40 IS CALLED 4X4 BUT THE OTHER WEIGHTS MAY BE JUST SYN BLEND. THEY ALL HAD C-F CLASSIFICATION. I HEARD Q/STATE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEIR OIL IN THE 70'S BUT I AM SURE THEIR ARE NO ISSUES WITH THEIR OILS. (I WAS WAITING TO GET ONE OF THOSE "OH NO, NOT QUAKER STATE" REMARKS)Dave |
