Battery is indeed in the trunk (righthand side). The only thing that's missing, as far as I can see, are the headlight wipers.
Will go after the VIN next.

Here's a shot of what the battery well should look like in the rear. Note that on the 500 there is a flip top lid on hinges, on a 400E you would need to lift the entire cover over the spare tire to get to the battery. Let us know what you find.
