Best Obd Ii Scanner
 

Hi Everybody,
I would like to buy a scanner to check my CLK 430 with a OBD II sistem i checked on web and there are many.................
likes baumtools.com or autocheckup.com
But i really do not know wich one is the best for a mercedes.
Does someone has a system like this?

Alberto, the 'best' is going to cost some $$$, about $2000! I believe the Baum Iscan, CS200, etc are around $2K+.

If this is for your use, you can get away alot cheaper, around $500 for a self-contained instrument (preferred). If you buy some sw for a laptop plus special interfaces, you can get away cheaper, maybe $300.

Got mine from eBay for less than $50. All cars equipped with ODB2 use the same protocol for code read and reset, so most scanner will basically peform the same, actually identical.
For simple stuff, all you need is a cheap scanner. Fancy one have code & message translation, however, a simple manual (accompany the scanner) usually can do the same job :-)

Just about everything you ask for is NOT available on an OBDII scanner. Only engines systems are available with an OBDII scanner.

An OBDII scanner will do about 5% of what a dedicated scanner will do for engines and ABSOLUTELY nothing else.

OBD-II also have different communication protocols, just like cell phones come in CDMA, TDMA, iDen, and GSM. Mercedes, like any other import for the exception of Toyota uses the ISO protocol, Chrysler also uses ISO protocol. GM and Toyota use VPW, and Ford uses PWM.

. . . . can not be done with a Palm Scanner or any OBDII scanner. These require a high end scanner such as the AST Retreiver or equivalent.

My tech just received the new 'module' (5724F) for his Retreiver. I got a chance to use it. WOW! This new version does LIVE data on ALL major modules in the car. You can look at the DI module including all firing voltages (primary and secondary). In the LH-SFI module, you can now easily read and RESET the S/A.

Alberto, any 'adjustments' to the tranny require a high end scanner.

I also do not like OBDII scanners for the same reasons stated by Steve. If you are going to 'stay' with Mercedes, then get a dedicated scanner.
