Hello,

I'm removing the rear door lining ('88 300e)
and there is a plastic sheeting there. I'm looking into my window problems. I was wondering what type of adhesive i will
need when i re-install this plastic sheeting.
Anyone have a suggestion. Thanks in advance
for your reply.

If you are really, really careful you should be able to put the plastic sheeting back in position utilizing the existing adhesive. Also, try not to get it on you - it pretty much has to wear off.
My question to you - Is the panel held on by clips that are inside?

Door trim panels are held in place by bolt thru upper end of door handle, door lock opening trim (2 screws) and hooked plastic tabs which seat in rectangular openings in the door inner panel. After removing the hardware mentioned above, push up with firm steady pressure on the lower edge of the trim panel to release the clips. Be careful, they can be easily broken and the plastic is 12 yrs old and probably a bit brittle. As far as the moisture shield plastic is concerned, most of the time it can be reused as is, but if it loses it's tack, you can refresh it with a quick wipe of acetone, or a spray adhesive.

Your were exactly right about the "12 year old clips", I managed to break only one.
The bad thing is, it is one of the two clips
that are on the armrest. I can't tell if
these are replaceable or if they are molded
into the armrest. It appears that the armrest is sealed to the door lining itself.
Do you have any info for a rookie diy?

Good news and bad news. The armrest is held on by screws on the back of the trim panel. Bad news is the hooks are molded and not individually replaceable. More people have broken these things off removing door trim than you could imagine. MBZ usually does a good job of designing things, but they really booted this one. Two options here, replace the panel, or find some way to engineer a repair. If... you have the broken piece, you can try reattaching it with some JB Weld. Really butter the broken piece and the area of the break on the door panel. Fill up the fillets between the ribs. Let it really set up well 24-48 hrs. If you're lucky it will stay together. This has worked on two occasions for me. There just doesn't seem to be any way to get those panels off w/o breaking at least one tab.

I'll give the jb-weld a try. Things could be
wosre, it could have been the drivers door.
Those back doors don't get opened much anyway. Thanks for the help.

Metalman, back to your original question...

I've used 3M brand spray adhesive (I think it's #77). It comes in different sized cans (one is small and is the one I chose) and is easy to use. You spray it on, wait a minute or two for it to set up and place the item you with to stick onto it.

Metalman, I saw the 3M at Wal-Mart the other day. I almost fell on the floor. The only place I could find this stuff was the automotive paint and body store in my neck of the woods. I bought 3 cans.(@$5.99 each as opposed to $12.95 at paint shop). Who says there isn't a God..

I had a problem getting the moisture barrier (plastic sheet) to stick after taking the door appart also. I ended up using pieces of cellophane tape to just hold the moisture barrier on the door frame. The molding itself squeezes against the barrier for good measure. Works so far.

I'm having problems with my right front passenger door molding - it seems to have loosened up over the years and the speaker in the door causes the whole thing to rattle a little bit. I used some silicone sealant in between all the parts that were rattling on the drivers side door - this worked, but is there some better way - short of replacing the entire molding?
