Rear fog connection

I looked into my tail light cluster and found a bulb in the rear fog position . However the socket is bare without electrical set up. Anyone know of how to accomplish this on a 89 300E.

I can't answer this question but this should be a manditory safety feature in the US. Not only do I find it more useful than front foglights but I always turn it on in heavy rain so people behind me can see me.

Of course, those civil servants in Washington are the same dorks who made Mercedes put sealed beam headlights on my '84 190D and can't understand that frontal offset crashes are far more likely than frontal crashes.

...end of rant.

Speaking of fog light connections, does anyone know how to connect into the second pull position on the head light switch of an slc? Is there existing wiring going somewhere like to the tail lights?

It seems to be a design 'feature' that only 1 rear fog is wired up. On both of my 126's (1984 and 1988) only the right rear fog is wired up. I guess it would be the other way round in the States.

I've also seen merc lorries only with the one fog light.

That's what I call saving money!

The rear fog light should be on the road side so people know which side is which. There is one fog light by design.

The rear fog light is required in Scandinavia or at least in Sweden. It's standard on Mercedes E and S Class cars as well.

there's only one rear foglite so that people following you can:

A: differentiate the fog light from the brake lights. (think about it...if you had 2 rear fogs, someone behind you might think you're riding your brakes or just have super bright tail lamps).

B: as Bud said, differentiate the driver's side from the passenger side so that they'll know the positioning of the car.
