Hi,
As I raise the driver's side window, when it reaches the top there is a loud thumping or banging noise. Other than this the window operates just fine. Any ideas out there? Thanks |
Yes, I have a great idea. When your window reaches the top of it's travel and is stopped by the window channel in the door, the motor is torquing and thumping against the sheetmetal in the door. I'll bet if you take a look, you'll fine it loose or broken.

Jeffsr,
Could be except that the window glass does not close hard up against the channel. In fact I now have to push the glass up the last bit then run the window motor to get it to seat. |
Either way, the motor is banging around inside the door when it reaches it's max travel.

I agree with Jeff. Same thing happened to my 300E. I replaced the window assembly but not the motor (since they come separate in my car). Repair it soon otherwise your window switch may go next!

Okay,
Pulled the door panel off this weekend. What I found was. 1. A loose electric motor mount bolt. 2. The part of the window lift that has gear teeth in it has several missing teeth near the end. Is this a part I can order by itself or do I need/should order the entire lift? Thanks |
Graham, go with a new assembly. Unless, you are confident that the rails, etc are in good enough shape. I believe the motor/gear assy can be purchased separately. Good Luck..
