I have an '84 300TD and every time the RPM's drop and the turbo winds down, there is a loud whining screech outside the car. If the windows are closed, it is a faint whistle from the dash. Has anyone seen this before? What to do?

The exhaust pipe that exits the turbo is designed to flex and over time is prone to crack due to the vibes the engine produces. My exaust down pipe cracked like this and the turbo's whislte was very obvious...especially outside the car. I am not sure f this can adversely effect the turbo but it is annoying and that is my guess as to what your problem may be.

If the air filter bracket is faulty, it will cause a noise like this. I have replaced over a thousand.
