Coolant Leak 92 300CE
 

I have a coolant leak on the north side of the coolant reservoir (white plastic box). The leak is coming out from in between the hole and a black plug that plugs the hole. The black plug has a wire coming out of it. Would appreciate it very much for answers to the following questions:
1. How do I fix it? Is this a simple fix?
2. What part (pls. include part no. if known) needs replacement?
3. My guess is either change the plastic coolant reservoir or change the black plug but what about the wire that connects to it...what is the name of this black plug?
4. Finally, would a bad engine mount cause engine hiccups and/or hesitation?

Just did this job last month (since a blown heater hose emptied out the coolant tank anyway :rolleyes: ). Took about fifteen minutes.

Fastlane has it for about $40 I think.

Thank you tkamiya & G-Benz. The drip is coming out from side of the plastic bottle not the bottom box. I don't know much about mechanicals so would appreciate more info:
1. What is a circlip and a circlip pryer? Where can I buy the pryer?
2. I don't have any light coming on so is it possible the coolant level sensor is OK and that it is the O ring or gasket that needs replacement?

But I don't own one. You can use a couple of pointy instruments to do the same task (I used my gauge cluster pullers).

You're low level light won't come on unless the coolant level gets on or below the level that will trigger the light, or excess coolant manages to penetrate the contacts on the switch, causing false readings (a very common failure, the symptom mine had).

I don't know if you can just buy the seal, but if yours is original, chances are it will give you problems down the road. For all the trouble to replace the seal, I would just go ahead and do the sensor too...the kit comes with a new seal.

Snap Ring Pliers
 

The tool(s) shown in the photo are called Snap Ring Pliers.They can be of the internal or external type..most are reversable. The clip on the low level sensor is commonly called a snap ring and with the above shown tool can be easily removed.The tools can be purchased at Auto Zone/Sears and numerous other stores and dont cost much.Good investment in the long term.
