alt. springs for 2.3-16 after hydro leveling removal
Need help finding alternate spring set for '86 2.3-16 to return car to proper ride level after removing hydraulic leveling system. Is there another set of springs from another model that will return the rear ride level to match the front? My MB mechanic, Bill Trinchitella is also going to do a similar switchover for his 2.3-16 that he races, but hasn't done the research yet. Please Advise
Thanks, -RJ |

what's wrong with your self-leveling?if you want to keep the same ride height you might as well fix the system.if you want to remove it best to drop a little all around, bilsteins, H&R etc.
anyway, search the board, you'll definately find your answer. |

If you want to use stock Mercedes springs you can use springs off of a 2.3 or 2.6 model. You can easily find them used at any salvage yard. This would be the cheapest method. You will probably just need to buy different sized spring pads than what are presently on your car to adjust the ride height. Like previously mentioned, you can also buy lowering springs but they cost a lot more and if you don't want the car lowered then that extra money spent is a waste.

since the hyrdo-pneumatic struts of the SLS bear most of the load the OEM springs in the rear of a 2.3-16 are very soft. if you are deleting the SLS you will need to use rear springs from a 2.3-8v as replacements. this goes for OEM and aftermarket springs.

Since the 2.3-16 is "slightly lowered" in its OEM configuration with the SLS, your best bet is to locate the Sportline springs with the appropriate spring pads for the W201.
