Motor Identification

I have a 1975 450 SL that I'm restoring. Where are the motor identification numbers ?

You should have either a M 117.982 or a M 117.985, not sure what year the engine changed.

I believe 1976 was the year they changed to the 985 CIS engine.

The motor identification numbers are on the left side of the engine block close to the bottom of the engine aft of the motor mount just above the oil pan. There will also be the date of manufature for the engine.

Should be a 982 - 1976 was the first year of the 985.
