Benzmac,
Just acquired a 1973 280 SEL with a 4.5 liter engine and great interior. When first started in the morning, the car has a high idle setting. Is this normal? It last until the engine comes to a normal operating temperature which is approximately 15 minutes. This is too long to wait. The next time, I tried to drive the car five minutes after starting the engine and noticed a lot of hesitation (looks like it was misfiring too)when you step on the gas pedal to accelerate. Is this normal for this model? Is there any adjustment that I could do? The car has 61kmi on the clock. The engine operates fine under other circumstances. Thanks for your help. Gilbert |

High idle is normal for about 3-5 min durning warm-up. Miss-fire & running problems aren't normal. These cars require a lot more maint than newer cars. Points, valve adjustment & plugs are normal 6-10k mi service work. This isn't a DIYer car unless you have a lot of time & $$$.
