repair weak springs with hog clips (c clips)
//an old sagged even broken spring cn be repaired with these clips. each strip of springs is usally sepperte from ajoining strip. By connectig these seperate strips at various points u suing c clips (aavailable in most disount hardware store for about $2.00) Incliudes handles (dont ned professional qualaity , comes 2 sizes) The result is too stiffen spring. Thus usually lasts If pad is shot, you need replaement pad. Good luck, it works for me. Abe G

abe's explanation of using hog rings to join adjacent springs sounds like a good solution to the sagging problem. In my case, however, the 2 broken 'springs' were those L-shaped wires running across the base (see engatworks's picture, which shows the spiral springs in the corners, as well as the wires). And, the breaks were at the corners of the wires as well. Split tubing was the only way I could see to rejoin these, although I suppose a piece of wire and several hog rings could be used as a 'splint' of sorts, but this wouldn't be quite as tight as a crimped sleeve..

Imagine a nail that has a sharp end at both ends and is curved in the shape of a C. They come in varying sizes.

this is the best thing that i ever did to my 560sel, which i purchased in the fourth quarter of 1986.
i did it about 30,000 miles ago[car now has 250,000 miles. we used two of the o.e. pads. initially, i felt that the seat was too plump. after 30,000 miles, my bottom has benefitted. these seats are already better than normal as they were the orthopedic options. in closing, having driven lots of cars over the years, at least through the w126 sedans, daimler benz seats were the best in the business. my guess is that this is no longer the story. |
