door lights on w124
I replaced the broken door check on my 87 300e today but now the tiny light that comes on at the bottom of the door when it is opened is not working. There's no voltage going to it at all according to a voltage tester. where would be the first place to look for a bad wire? I thought in between the door and the body but did not know how to remove the rubber that protects the wires. If it is very difficult to fix I'll probably just leave it, I just hate when you fix one thing only to have another thing break. Plus, the door light is nice to have so grandma doesn't step in dog crap or something when she gets out of the car.

Even worse than stepping in dog crap getting out of the car is when someone steps in dog crap getting in!
Re the door light, it has been known for the wiring to fatigue and break inside the rubber tube between the door and body. You should be able to squeeze the rubber tube and remove it much like a rubber grommet. I have not had this happen with the door wiring, but I had a couple of thicker wires (chassis/earth and rear demister) fail this way in the harness to the tailgate on our 300TE wagon. It was possible to pull the wires at the end and have the broken ones pull out. I ran new wires through the rubber tube and spliced them in the car where they do not flex.

fixed it. It was in fact a split wire in the door. I just spliced them with one of those tube looking wire connecters that you crimp. We'll see how long it holds. Thanks for the help Greg.

rear dome light/trunk light wiring
Greg,
I have no rear dome light & only a dim trunk light on my 87 300e. Do you know where these wires go so I can check them? Thanks.

I have a dim light in my trunk as well. All others seem to be fine. Is it worth tryig a new bulb? My car is a 1994 E320. Thanks in advance for any responses.
