R129 - '92/'93 Euro - Flashing door lock codes?

I've seen a couple of others with posts about various issues regarding the remote access of the 129 in the SL forum, but unfortunately there has been no real answer, so I thought about asking here - just in case.

On rare occasions my remote fails to unlock the car, this applies to any sensor. Following this failure, and by using the key in the drivers door (not tested others) the car unlocks fine. Subsequently by locking the car the red light stays on permanently for around 20 seconds - this I'm sure is a warning! The remote often operates fine afterwards, but not upon every failure.

Last night I happened to notice that the normal sequence of flashing lights, upon lock and unlock, (10 short pulses of green / 5 short pulses of red) had changed and that pulse 4 of red was of longer duration.

Being an electronic eng. I expect MB use pulse codes to indicate failure modes - does anyone know how to interpret these or has anyone any recommendations for cure?

Maybe these code are accessible from the 9 pin diagnostic connector (I can't find the 38pin don't think my car has one) - if so can I connect an LED to one of the pins. Does anyone have the full fault code listing too?

Sorry - a million and one questions - Oh I wish a workshop manual existed!!!!!!

Thanks
Lea

As far as I know a alternate flashing of the reg/green lights only suggests a problem. I don't think there is any code there.

I would think the RCL would be the controller and diagnostics should be available using the the impulse counting method (see archives). To follow up on the codes retrieved all of the diagnosic code reading info is located in the DM (diagnostic manuals). This is available online from MB (at a daily price) at www.startekinfo.com

I think the reason why your remte stops working is something to do with the synchronisation between the receiver and key. Have you replaced the betteries in the remote recently. If you take longer than a few second the key needs to be re-synchronised to the car. The method of doing this is to use the key and then use the remote ( as mentioned in the handbook).

When you do this the red LED does stay constantly lit until you press the remote.

Thanks for your comments

I also wondered about synchronisation as this would show similar characteristics, although I'm not sure of the red light staying on and the remotes is brand new - having said that I'll force a re-sync to see what happens.

Steve - Startek doesn't seem to provide that much info (reviewed the demo) and it's USA born, perhaps there's a euro equivalent?

Cheers

I'm sorry I didn't notice you weren't in the US.

The startek site has all the printed diagnostic manuals and the best wiring diagrams that exist with links to all kinds of other info.

It reproduces WIS and extends upon it. For late model cars it is about all the info there is without a Star Tester.

But, its existance is due to US legal action and I am pretty sure they will only take credit cards with US billing addresses.
