Hello,

I have an `87 190E 2.6 that I recently purchased and am in the process of changing all fluids and filters. I know Mercedes recommends MB power steering fluid, but does anyone know if I would run into problems with redline. If the answer is no, I would prefer to use the synthetic, but if there is a chance of harming the seals or anything else, I'll stick with MB fluid.

All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

John

John,

Don't even worry about using MB fluid. Regular Dexron III ATF is fine for power steering systems, except on certain newer MB models, but on your 190, use ATF--and flush the system, don't just replace the filter and the fluid in the resirvoir.

Aaron,

Thanks for the info. I'd like to use either Redline power steering fluid or Redline synthetic ATF. Do you or anyone else know if the Redline PS fluid is suitable for this system (to tell you the truth, I don't know how it is different from their ATF -- for all I know, it's just a different bottle :) ).

Thanks again,

John
