Questoins with new [to me] MBZ

I just purchaced this 1972 280SEL yesterday and drove it over 300 miles to get it home :)

EBAY AUCTION

This is my second 1972 280SEL, the first one looks like this:

Pic album of the blue benz

AAAAnyway my questions on the new one are this:

Iis there any way to make the floor shifter less sloppy an prone to moving when you don't want it to?.

Is it normal that even though I have the floor shifter, the colum has the silver ring where the colum shifter would come from [that one has me confused].

What spark plugs should I use? air filter? oil filter? plug wires?....

I guess thats it for now:)

Click on the Fastlane link at the top and go to their parts catalog. Select your car and then you can see Info on the parts for your car and their cost.

As an example, your car takes Bosch W7DC plugs.

While you're on FastLane, look for transmission shift rod bushings. Do a forum search as well for tips on installing them.

As for the shifter? I didn't think floor shift was available on US 108s. Maybe your car is a Euro or maybe it was converted. My dad's 300SEL 3.5 was converted from column shift to floor shift before he got it and there's no silver ring on the steering column.

BTW I perused through your albums and noticed that you are also a Bug afficiando! :D

What size motor do you run?

Makes me want to get mine back into shape.

Here are pics of mine a year ago (before the Texas sun faded the paint, etc. etc.)...
